Festival Mathakur – Nordic Culture Festival

A Celebration of Nordic Culture Through Art, Food, and Music in Strasbourg

WHY?

Mathakur highlights Nordic culture in Europe, bringing together Scandinavian countries, the Baltics, Greenland, and the Faroe Islands. The festival celebrates diverse art forms and aims to promote cultural exchange, with a special focus on Nordic cuisine through a collaboration with renowned chef René Redzepi.

HOW?

The festival will take place in Strasbourg, with a variety of activities, including theater, dance, circus performances, concerts, cinema, and art exhibitions. The event also features culinary events and a unique partnership with René Redzepi. The goal is to showcase the richness of Nordic culture, especially in art and gastronomy, while ensuring accessibility for all.

WHAT?

The festival will run for 10 days and will feature free events across multiple locations. A unique element is the introduction of Nordic cuisine, with a culinary event hosted by René Redzepi, alongside performances and exhibitions that reflect the diverse artistic expressions of the Nordic world.

The GOAL

To promote Nordic culture by offering an immersive experience that spans art, food, and music, while fostering cross-cultural understanding and engagement with the Nordic countries.

The challenge

The challenge lies in creating a visual identity that captures the essence of Nordic culture and integrates it seamlessly across various media. This involves developing engaging materials such as event flyers, posters, tote bags, and digital content for social media. The goal is to ensure the festival’s identity resonates across different platforms while maintaining a cohesive look.

WHAT I've learned through this project

I’ve learned how to design a complete festival identity that captures the essence of a region’s culture.
This project reinforced the importance of visual storytelling and how design can reflect the spirit of an event, while also considering practicality and accessibility for diverse audiences.
